President Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon said that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani contracted coronavirus.
Giuliani, his lawyer, “has tested positive for the China Virus,” Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. “Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!”
Trump added that Giuliani, who has spearheaded his campaign’s legal efforts in key states, “has been working tirelessly exposing the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA.”
The president did not provide any more details about the 76-year-old Giuliani’s coronavirus diagnosis.
Some hours later, Rudy Giuliani responded on Twitter, saying “Thank you to all my friends and followers for all the prayers and kind wishes. I’m getting great care and feeling good.”
“Recovering quickly and keeping up with everything,” he added.
Giuliani is the latest official of Trump’s orbit to become infected with the coronavirus over the course of the pandemic. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, senior adviser Hope Hicks, and chief of staff Mark Meadows are among other senior staffers who have tested positive for the virus and since recovered.
The news of Giuliani’s diagnosis comes nearly two weeks after his son Andrew, also a White House staffer, tested positive for COVID-19. The senior Giuliani reportedly tested negative at the time, according to Fox News.
About a month before Election Day, Trump himself tested positive for the virus and spent several days in Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, before he was released. His wife, first lady Melania Trump, and son, Barron—as well as other White House officials—tested positive for the virus around the same time.
Rudy Giuliani has been relentlessly working to expose the election fraud that took place in November as the Trump campaign attorney.
