Kamala Harris holds unusual meeting with a foreign leader at the White House

Time To Prepare For Transition Of Power From Biden To Harris

Without President Biden present, Vice President Kamala Harris met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday, and the two then appeared together to make a statement.

A bilateral meeting at the White House between a US vice president and a visiting head of state, followed by a joint appearance by the two, is extremely rare.

Before the meeting, Harris and President Moon walked and talked for a photo opportunity, which included Moon and several of his aides, as well as Harris and several of hers.

Harris’ session with Moon is not the first time the vice president has spoken on her own with world leaders.

Harris also took a call with Jordanian King Abdullah II Thursday, to address the Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire in Gaza.

Since taking office in January, Harris has spoken with French President Emanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The vice president pledged in her remarks to work with South Korea to promote “a region that is unconstrained by coercion.”

Harris will take her first international trip in June to Mexico and Guatemala in an attempt to stop the endless stream of migrants arriving at the southern border.
