A fourth police officer who was involved in a shootout with Capitol protesters on January 6 committed suicide.

Kyle DeFreytag, 26, died on July 10. On January 6th, he responded to the Capitol insurgency and worked the late shift. DeFreytag had been stationed outside the Capitol.

According to his obituary, DeFreytag had worked for the Metropolitan Police Department for five years. He was described as a Pennsylvania native and a five-year veteran of the DC force.

Kyle DeFreytag previously served in the city’s 5th Congressional District. On the day of the protest, he was working a late shift at the Capitol, enforcing curfew violations, Metropolitan Police confirmed to WUSA9.

“I am writing to share tragic news that Officer Kyle DeFreytag of the 5th District was found deceased last evening,” Chief Robert J. Contee III wrote in a message to the department in mid-July. “This is incredibly hard news for us all, and for those that knew him best.”

The officer’s obituary said that a memorial service was held in the nation’s capital over the weekend.

His death was announced on Monday, just hours after it was revealed that a third officer had committed suicide.

Gunther Hashida, 43, died on July 29, according to his family’s GoFundMe page. He would have turned 44 on Thursday.

It’s unclear how he killed himself, and his family hasn’t blamed his death on the January 6 protest. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

He’d been with the DC Metropolitan Police Department for 18 years.

U.S. Capitol Police officer Howard Liebengood killed himself three days after the protest and DC Police Officer Jeffrey Smith shot himself on his way to work on January 15.

The protest led to the deaths of five people, including US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Three days after the protest, another Capitol Police officer, Howard Liebengood, committed suicide. Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey Smith fatally shot himself on Jan. 15, one day after he was ordered back to work.
