85 Percent of Americans Believe Nation Headed in ‘Wrong Direction’: Poll

Poll: 85 Percent of Americans Believe Nation Headed in ‘Wrong Direction’

85 percent of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction, up 36 percent from January 2021, when President Joe Biden took office, according to a survey.

The Associated Press/NORC poll reveals that both Democrats and Republicans believe the country is headed in the “wrong path.” Among Democrats polled, 78% believe the country is headed in the “wrong direction,” a dramatic rise of 25% since March, when only 43% believed the country was on the wrong track. In a poll conducted by Politico earlier this week, 78 percent of respondents said the country was moving in the wrong direction. This week, that number has increased to 85 percent.

The AP/NORC survey also finds that Biden is underwater with independents, as only one in four approves of his job performance. Furthermore, 72% of Democrats support Biden, while 91% of Republicans oppose him. Participants in the poll were also asked to evaluate his handling of crucial topics such as the economy, gun control, and the Wuhan coronavirus.

Only 14 percent of independents surveyed approve of Biden’s economic management, although Democrats are virtually split on the subject, with 54 percent approving and 43 percent disapproving. According to a press statement related with the study, only 28% of respondents were satisfied with his handling of the issue, “down from 51% one year earlier.” More over eight in ten respondents, including 90 percent of Republicans and 67 percent of Democrats, evaluate the economy as “bad.” The current figure represents a 17 percent increase from March, when 50 percent of Democrats deemed the economy to be “bad.”

36 percent of respondents approve of how Biden is “managing gun policy,” while 62 percent dislike, with little more than a quarter of independents approving and 34 percent of Democrats disapproving.

Regarding Biden’s management of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, the majority of independents (60 percent) are dissatisfied, although the vast majority of Democrats (85 percent) are pleased. Three-quarters of Republicans disapprove of the president’s pandemic response.

The poll surveyed 1,053 adults nationwide via landlines and cell phones between June 23-27 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percent.
