On Monday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) called for Democrat President Joe Biden and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to be impeached, citing the administration’s escalating border problem.

Roy posted online a breakdown of preliminary illegal immigration totals from July. He states that last month hit the highest levels since 2000 with more than 205,000 border crossers encountered by federal immigration officials and 37,400 known got-aways, that is, illegal aliens who successfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

Chip Roy tweeted what he described as early border data for the month of July, noting that they were subject to change.

“Total encounters: 205,029. Total known gotaways: 37,400,” Chip Roy tweeted. “1.3 million for [Fiscal Year] 21 so far. Largest monthly encounter number since 2000.”

The numbers, if accurate, would be the largest total ever recorded by DHS, which was created in 2002 in response to the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks.

“What Joe Biden is doing at our border is impeachable,” Jesse Kelly, a political commentator, responded. “It’s more impeachable than Watergate. This is an attack on the sovereignty of America and it’s coming from the Oval Office. Republicans should move to impeach after 2022.”

Chip Roy responded to Kelly’s tweet by writing: “Co-sponsor. #ImpeachBiden #ImpeachMayorkas”

In an statement to The Daily Wire, Roy explained his call to impeach Biden and Mayorkas, saying: “Over the past several months, President Biden and Sec. Mayorkas have blatantly and consistently refused to do their constitutional duty to take care that the immigration laws be faithfully executed, as required by Article II, endangering countless American and foreign lives in the process.”

A reporter for The Washington Post later confirmed the July border numbers that Roy tweeted out.

Analysis from Steven Kopits with Princeton Policy Advisors projects that President Joe Biden’s lax immigration enforcement, elimination of border controls, and expansive catch and release operation will drive at least 1.7 million illegal aliens to the southern border by the end of 2021.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has sought to stem the flow of illegal immigration into the U.S. interior by ordering that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) cannot transport border crossers into the state.

As Breitbart News reported, the latest data reveals that the Department of Homeland Security has released about 173,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior — some of which have been found to skip out on their quarantine and continue traveling into the country despite having coronavirus.

Last week, DHS released a group of coronavirus-positive border crossers into La Joya, Texas, that was later found eating at a Whataburger. Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley had booked hotel rooms for the coronavirus-positive border crossers but they skipped quarantine instead.
