Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee says that if all politicians who have ever been involved in protests are to be removed from office, it may be time to begin with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Huckabee said in a Saturday interview with the Fox Business Network that the comments made by President Donald Trump on Jan. 6 before the Capitol incursion may not have been well-chosen, but he said Trump is not alone.
Huckabee said: “Politicians say reckless things all the time,” according to The Daily Caller.
“If we’re going to impeach Donald Trump for what he said, then we’d better impeach Kamala Harris for saying the things she did last summer about the rioters and looters — and even establishing a monetary fund to get them out of jail on bail so they could get back to the riots,” Huckabee said.
“Everybody should have a turn.”
Harris supported raising funds for an organization called the Minnesota Freedom Fund over the summer, which bailed out those behind bars during the protests of the summer. Staffers for then-candidate Joe Biden contributed as well.
“If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota,” Harris wrote in a on June 1 Twitter post.
A Fox News follow-up article noted that people suspected of murder and child abuse, as well as other offences, were bailed out by the fund for which Harris was collecting donations.
Huckabee has taken to social media to fight back against some of Trump’s critics.
Huckabee said that at the time of the Electoral College certification vote and the Capitol incursion, Trump’s actions did not “serve the country’s interest very well.”
He said he disagreed with Vice President Mike Pence’s high-pressure urge by Trump to reject the results from states where Trump believed election fraud took place.
“I think Mike Pence was right and the president was totally off the mark when it comes to what Pence could do. But that’s not an impeachable offense,” Huckabee said.
Last week, the House voted to pass an article to impeach Trump. It’s uncertain when a Senate trial could take place.
Georgia’s Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has already suggested impeaching President-elect Joe Biden over his actions in favor of his son Hunter’s dealings.
