Headlines today for Pelosi’s plan about 25th Amendment. The 25th allows for the VP to become acting president if the president ‘is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office’

Pelosi to announce bill on 25th Amendment after questioning Trump’s health

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday will introduce legislation to create a commission that would allow Congress to oust President Trump from office, using the 25th Amendment.

Pelosi said on Thursday that she would be “talking about the 25th Amendment” on Friday — which allows for the vice president to become acting president if it is determined that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

In the stunning move, Pelosi said that Trump would need to reveal more about the state of his health since he tested positive for COVID-19, particularly concerns that it may be affecting his mental health.

She cited a “strange tweet” by Trump earlier in the week when he abruptly halted talks on a new stimulus package, arguing that Pelosi was not negotiating in good faith.

Pelosi spars with CNN’s Blitzer over COVID-19 aid

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., accused CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer Tuesday of being “an apologist … for the Republican position” during a stunning interview in which she grew visibly frustrated with “The Situation Room” anchor’s questions.

The fireworks began when Blitzer asked Pelosi why she “won’t accept the president’s latest [coronavirus] stimulus offer.”

“I hope you’ll ask the same question of the Republicans on why they don’t want to meet the needs of the American people,” Pelosi responded. “But let me say to those people because all of my colleagues — we represent these people … and their needs are not addressed in the president’s proposal. So when you say to me, ‘Why don’t you accept theirs?’ Why don’t they accept ours?”

Blitzer interjected, telling Pelosi that Americans “really need the money now” and quoted Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who recently said, “People in need can’t wait until February. $1.8 trillion is significant & more than twice the Obama stimulus … Make a deal & put the ball in McConnell court.”

“So what do you say to Ro Khanna?” Blitzer asked.

“What I say to you is I don’t know why you’re always an apologist — and many of your colleagues [are] apologists for the Republican position,” Pelosi fired back, adding “Ro Khanna, that’s nice, that isn’t what we’re going to do and nobody’s waiting til February.”

Blitzer pressed Pelosi again about Trump’s $1.8 trillion proposal, asking her, “why not work out a deal with him and don’t let the perfect, as they say here in Washington, be the enemy of the good?”

“Well, I will not let the wrong be the enemy of the right,” Pelosi fired back.

“What’s wrong with $1.8 trillion?” Blitzer asked.

“You know what, do you have any idea what the difference is between the spending that they have in their bill and what we have in our bill?” Pelosi asked before ticking off a list of her issues with the proposal.

Pelosi Unveils Congressional Commission Bill on President’s Fitness to Serve

The legislation would create a commission to allow Congress to intervene under the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and remove the president from executive duties—with just 25 days to go before the Nov. 3 election.

However, Pelosi suggested that the gambit wasn’t particularly about Trump.

“This is not about President Trump; he will face the judgment of the voters,” Pelosi told reporters in a news conference on Friday. “But he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents.”

The commission would be permanent and would apply to current and future administrations. However, based on Pelosi’s rhetoric, it is a clear shot at President Trump, who is being treated for the CCP virus since his diagnosis last week.

“Clearly, he is under medication,” Pelosi later said of President Trump, adding that “clearly he is in an altered state.”

When asked about the timing of the bill with just weeks to go before the election, “There has been a call … to execute the 25th Amendment,” but “that’s not what we’re doing.”

“We have to give some comfort to people that there is some way to do this,” Pelosi said, adding that it needs the “full involvement of the vice president of the United States.” “This is a comfort to people,” Pelosi said, adding that it is “bipartisan and based in the Constitution.”

Pelosi: ‘We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that Democrats will hold an event on Friday to discuss the 25th Amendment amid concerns over President Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis.

“Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, come here tomorrow. We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment. But not to take attention away from the subject we have now,” she said in response to a question at a press conference regarding a possible coronavirus stimulus package.

When pressed for clarification as to whether Pelosi believes it is time to invoke the 25th Amendment, she declined to provide an explicit answer but hinted the discussion was tied to what she said was a lack of transparency from the White House over Trump’s health. The amendment delineates presidential succession and authorizes the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to declare a president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

“I’m not talking about it today except to tell you, if you want to talk about that, we’ll see you tomorrow,” she said. “But you take me back to my point, Mr. President, when was the last time you had a negative test before you tested positive? Why is the White House not telling the country that important fact about how this made a hotspot of the White House?”

Pelosi announced later Thursday that she will unveil legislation on Friday with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a constitutional law expert, that would create a commission to determine whether a president is fit for office.

Republicans baffled by Pelosi’s 25th amendment suggestion, say she wants to ‘stage a coup’

Republicans were baffled by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Thursday suggestion that she might introduce a bill allowing a body appointed by Congress to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office as he recovers from the novel coronavirus.

The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president to become acting president if it is determined that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” Currently, the vice president and cabinet can invoke that amendment.

“Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, come here tomorrow,” Pelosi said. “We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment.”

Pelosi was referring to a bill she will unveil Friday with Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., that would allow Congress to establish a permanent body to determine whether the president is fit for office: an Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity. The bill is expected to reflect legislation that Raskin introduced in 2017.

Still, Pelosi would have to convince Senate Republicans to go along with it. Plus, Vice President Mike Pence would also have to sign the declaration as well, which would be highly unlikely.

Trump fired back at “Crazy Nancy” on Twitter. “Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation,” he said. “They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!”

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., noted previous attempts by Pelosi to remove Trump from office.

“@SpeakerPelosi will stop at NOTHING to take down @realDonaldTrump,” he wrote on Twitter. “First it was the Russia hoax, then sham impeachment. Now she’s trying to invoke the 25th amendment because he… fully recovered from the coronavirus? We won’t let her get away with it.”

Pelosi, Democrats Introducing Bill to Create Commission on ‘Presidential Capacity’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) announced a bill to create “Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office” that would possibly attempt to invoke the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to enable Congress to “help ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive Branch of government.”

Earlier on Thursday, Pelosi said Democrats were planning to discuss the 25th Amendment, but she did not elaborate. At the same time, she called on President Donald Trump, who tested positive for the CCP virus, to reveal his latest test results.
