The U.S. State Department’s website on Monday showed that President Donald Trump’s term had ended, but it seems a hack or cyber breach.

The section “biographies” of the website is updated today indicating that: “Donald J. Trump’s term ended on 2021-01-11 19:41:30,” but the exact time of minutes is constantly changed.

A biography for Vice President Mike Pence showed a similar message: “Michael R. Pence’s term ended on 2021-01-11 19:47:59.”

U.S. Department of State shows Michael R. Pence’s term ended

The time constantly changes between 19:22:18 and 19:48:41 though.

Some minutes later, the website is notified: “We’re sorry, this site is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again in a few moments.”

Their terms are actually set to expire on Jan. 20. The State Department’s press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

BuzzFeed News, citing sources, said a “disgruntled staffers” was behind the changes.

Here’s some comments on Twitter about this news:

  • “Hack probably…Trump does not pull up on the State Dept’s site because he never worked there. That site only had the bios of people who worked at the dept.”
  • “Hackers, trolls or a very stupid error at the U.S. State Department, surely.”
  • “Did he just resign, or was the 25th Amendment implemented?”
  • “Trump’s Name isn’t Archived on the Website. Web Trackers show that the Page was probably created Today, so High Possibility of a Cyber Breach.”

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is speaking out against censorship by “Twitter, Facebook, Apple, and on college campuses” while speaking at VOA.

President Trump is facing calls to resign in the wake of last week’s violence on the U.S. Congress. Democrats and a few Republicans have called on Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to immediately remove Trump from office.
