Use a repeatable method

Misinformation checks should test provenance before persuasion. Find the earliest version, identify what changed as the item spread, and separate the underlying photo, quote or statistic from the caption attached to it. This often resolves a viral claim faster than arguing about the source’s politics.

Keep a short evidence log

Maintain a small evidence note for viral items: original post, earlier appearances, strongest corroboration, strongest contradiction and present confidence. The note is especially useful for old screenshots that return with a new date, location or political context.
