How to use it
The checker is a triage instrument for a single factual claim. Its eight prompts force you to identify claim wording, source provenance, primary evidence, independent corroboration, time and place, media context, quantitative context and later updates. A low score tells you exactly which evidence class is missing.
What it does not prove
The score is intentionally not a probability and not a truth label. One decisive primary record can outweigh several weak checks, while eight checked boxes built on circular sourcing can still mislead. Use the result to decide what to investigate next.
When to escalate
Raise the threshold before repeating accusations about identifiable people, before financial action or when a claim could affect safety. In those situations, move from web corroboration to authenticated records or independently verified contact channels.
