How to use it
The confidence card turns an evolving story into a dated assessment. Capture the exact claim, strongest support, strongest contradiction, independent confirmation status, the evidence that would change your view, and a plain-language confidence label.
What it does not prove
Confidence is not permanence. Breaking-news assessments should be easy to revise because witnesses, authorities and newsrooms can correct early reports. The “what could change this?” field prevents a temporary judgment from hardening into identity or ideology.
When to escalate
Use the card before posting a consequential breaking-news claim. It works well for casualty reports, arrests, resignations, attack attribution and market-moving announcements where the first version is often incomplete.
