How to use it
This utility distinguishes a movement measured in percentage points from a relative percent change. The difference matters whenever a headline compares rates, shares, approval levels, prices or risks expressed with the percent symbol.
What it does not prove
The calculator assumes the two values use the same definition, denominator and time basis. A mathematically correct change can still be misleading when the underlying population, measurement method or period changed between observations.
When to escalate
Use it before repeating dramatic phrases such as “doubled,” “up 20%” or “fell five percent.” Write both the absolute movement and relative change when either one materially changes how a reader would understand the result.
